A different kind of dental relationship

Dentistry is about more than fixing teeth.

It is about making the right decisions.

Dr. Boren approaches dentistry comprehensively—considering the teeth, gums, bite, function, esthetics and long-term health of each patient before recommending treatment.

That philosophy allows her to treat straightforward dental needs while also helping patients navigate more complicated decisions involving worn teeth, failing restorations, bite problems, implants, cosmetic concerns and comprehensive reconstruction.

The goal is not simply to perform dentistry. The goal is to understand the patient well enough to perform the right dentistry.

Sara B. Boren, DDS, FAGD

Kois Trained Kois Mentor FAGD AACD Member

Dr. Boren has spent her career pursuing a deeper understanding of comprehensive dentistry.

Her advanced education extends well beyond the requirements of general practice, with a focus on restorative, cosmetic, functional and evidence-based dentistry.

She completed the curriculum at the Kois Center in Seattle and now returns as a mentor, helping other dentists deepen their understanding of diagnosis, risk assessment and comprehensive treatment planning.

That role keeps her immersed in an environment where challenging cases, current evidence and sophisticated treatment decisions are constantly being discussed—alongside dentists who travel from across the United States and around the world to study at the Center.

For Dr. Boren's patients, the benefit is simple: their dentist continues to study dentistry at a very high level.

A dentist who still studies dentistry

Credentials aren't the goal. Better decisions are.

The Kois approach

Diagnose first, Treat second

Many dental problems are symptoms of something larger.

A broken tooth may result from an unstable bite. Worn teeth may signal years of excessive forces. Cosmetic concerns may involve proportions, tooth position, gum health or function—not simply tooth color.

The Kois approach encourages dentists to assess multiple areas of risk before beginning treatment.

PeriodontalThe health and stability of the gums and supporting structures.
BiomechanicalThe structural health of teeth and existing restorations.
FunctionalHow the teeth, muscles and bite work together.
DentofacialThe appearance, position and proportions of the teeth within the smile and face.
Understanding these factors helps Dr. Boren develop treatment based on the individual—not simply the procedure.
What brings patients to Dr. Boren?

Start with the question that matters to you

“I want a dentist I can trust for the long term.”

Preventive care, comprehensive examinations, restorative dentistry and a long-term view of your dental health.

“My teeth keep breaking or wearing down.”

Evaluation of worn teeth, fractured teeth, bite concerns, failing restorations and complex restorative needs.

“I want my smile to look better—but natural.”

Cosmetic consultations, bonding, porcelain restorations, whitening and thoughtful smile design.

“I've been given a complicated treatment plan.”

Second opinions, comprehensive evaluations, treatment planning and careful sequencing of complex care.

“My mouth needs a lot of work and I don't know where to start.”

Start with a conversation. Complex dentistry does not have to begin with treatment. It begins with understanding the problem.

Independent dental care

Dentistry guided by you—not an insurance contract

Your insurance company should help pay for your dentistry. It should NOT decide your dentistry.

Dr. Boren is an out-of-network provider with all dental insurance plans. That is a deliberate choice.

Dental insurance can be a valuable benefit, and many patients are understandably accustomed to choosing providers within their network. But insurance coverage and comprehensive dental care are not always the same thing.

Dr. Boren has chosen to practice independently so insurance agreements do not determine the amount of time she spends with a patient, the materials she selects, the way treatment is sequenced, or the recommendations she makes.

Her responsibility is to the patient in front of her.

Most dental plans still provide some level of reimbursement for out-of-network care, although benefits vary by plan. Our team can help patients understand how to maximize their dental benefits.

A thoughtful philosophy

Conservative when possible. Comprehensive when necessary.

Advanced dentistry should not automatically mean more dentistry.

It means having the knowledge to recognize risk, understand options and choose treatment appropriately.

Sometimes that means comprehensive reconstruction. Sometimes it means repairing a single tooth. And sometimes the best decision is simply to monitor something.

The sophistication is in knowing the difference.
